Padres continue long homestand with interleague series

Cleveland (26-29) at San Diego (34-23), 10:05 pm EDT

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- The San Diego Padres host the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday in the opener of a three-game interleague series.

After winning 11 straight home games - including the first two of their current 13-game homestand - the Padres have lost four of their last five at Petco Park. They were shut out twice in that stretch, including Sunday's 4-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs . San Diego managed just five hits - all singles - in the latest setback.

Brian Lawrence (3-6, 5.35 ERA) gets the start for the Padres. Like his team, Lawrence has been much better at home, posting a 2-2 record with a 3.41 ERA.

He struggled in his last start at Petco Park, however, giving up five runs and a career high-tying 12 hits in 5 2/3 innings in a 5-2 loss to Milwaukee on Wednesday.

The Indians snapped a four-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. They scratched out two unearned runs in the top of the 12th inning.

Cleveland starter Cliff Lee (6-3, 3.62) had won four of five starts before last Wednesday's 6-2 loss to Minnesota in which he gave up four runs and a season-high nine hits in five innings.

Lee is 5-1 on the road this year and 2-0 with a 2.13 ERA in two career starts in National League ballparks.

The Indians won two of three from the Padres at home in 2003.
