"You go up there and hope he will hang something," Beckett said. "He's got good stuff. He showed us that in two straight outings. You just hope he leaves one up, and he did, and I was lucky enough to hit it."
Beckett recovered from a leadoff walk in the sixth to strike out the side. He also worked around a leadoff walk in the seventh and a single to start the eighth.
"He (Beckett) pitched a great game," Marlins catcher
said. "He threw two or three good fastballs to (Reggie) Sanders (in the sixth). It was one of the keys to the game. Overall, a great performance. He kept the ball down and threw strikes."
also praised Beckett.
"He was outstanding," McClendon said. "The man has special stuff and he had it going tonight. He had excellent command of all his pitches. It was a special performance."
In the bottom of the sixth, the Marlins gave Beckett some insurance.
