LOS ANGELES 8, COLORADO 7

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers ' hold on the National League West Division lead got a little more secure thanks to Milton Bradley .

Bradley's game-winning single with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Los Angeles Dodgers an 8-7 victory over the Colorado Rockies .

The win pushed the Dodgers' lead over the San Francisco Giants in the division to three games with just six remaining.

With one out in the ninth, Jayson Werth and Steve Finley had back-to-back singles against Steve Reed (3-8), who then walked Adrian Beltre intentionally. That brought up Bradley, who rapped a hard grounder past drawn-in second baseman Aaron Miles .

"I don't care who's hitting in front of me, you don't intentionally walk someone to get to me," Bradley said. "It's not personal, it's common sense."

Beltre put the Dodgers ahead 5-2 in the second with his third grand slam of the year and 48th homer of the season. The 48 homers tie him with Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt for most by a third baseman in a single season.

"It was more important as far as what it meant to my team," Beltre said. "It's nice to be mentioned with the best-hitting third basemen of all time, but it's not what's on my mind."

But starter Edwin Jackson could not hold the lead, surrendering a two-run homer to Vinny Castilla - who leads the National League with 130 RBI - in the third. He then gave up a homer to rookie Brad Hawpe and an RBI single to Miles in the fourth.

Hawpe's homer was the 200th hit by the Rockies this season - they are the first National League franchise to record six 200-homer seasons.

After reliever Scott Stewart gave up an RBI double to Todd Helton later in the fourth, five different relievers held the Rockies hitless over the final five innings. Yhency Brazoban (4-1) retired Castilla for the final out in the top of the ninth for the win.

"They no-hit us after the fourth inning and that's a reshuffled bullpen over there," Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said. "They're doing things you need to do to get in the postseason."

The Dodgers bullpen leads the major leagues with a 2.99 ERA and is trying to become the first bullpen to lead the majors in ERA in back-to-back seasons since the 1989-90 Oakland Athletics .

"As we have done a lot over the last two weeks, we went into the bullpen and they responded," Dodgers manager Jim Tracy said.

Duaner Sanchez , who pitched two scoreless innings, tied Pedro Martinez ' franchise mark for relief appearances by a rookie with 65.

After Beltre's second-inning homer, Rockies stater Shawn Estes settled down to retire 12 in a row and 15 of the last 16 batters he faced.

" Shawn Estes does that all the time," Tracy said. "He has games where he creates an inning for you. We capitalized on it tonight. He settled down after that. We needed to get to him when we did."

The Dodgers were trailing 7-5 in the eighth when Beltre and Bradley led off the inning with singles off reliever Brian Fuentes . Shawn Green cut the deficit to one by plating Beltre with a single to right field.

Reed relieved Fuentes and after getting pinch hitter Alex Cora to pop out, pinch hitter Robin Ventura hit a dribble that Reed could not field cleanly, allowing Bradley to score the tying run.

"It seems like we don't get it started until late in the game," Bradley said. "Our bullpen always keeps us close then we find a way."

"Ventura hit it just bad enough to score the run," Hurdle said. "That's usually the way those storied seasons go."

It was the 32nd blown save by Colorado's bullpen this season.

"Going to the end of the games, we don't get it done," Hurdle said. "That's our MO."

With a homer and a single, Beltre increased his total base count to 374, breaking Green's Los Angeles record of 370 - set in 2001. Babe Herman holds the all-time Dodgers record with 416, set in 1930 when the team was in Brooklyn.

"Until this year he's never been a player who could change the game or carry a team on his back," Estes said. "He's locked in, he's not missing mistakes. He's probably feeling good mentally and physically. He's always had the tools to do it, sometimes it takes a while to figure it out."
