ATLANTA 5, NY METS 2 (2ND GAME)

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox is poised to join an exclusive club.

Rookie Adam LaRoche and Marcus Giles hit solo homers in the fifth inning and Atlanta scored three times in the sixth as the Braves posted a 5-2 triumph over the New York Mets and salvaged a split of their doubleheader.

The victory gave Cox 1,999 in his career - only eight managers ever have won 2,000 games.

"I'm honestly not thinking about that," Cox said. "I have to think about it now because I'm told about it. But if it is going to happen, it would be nice to happen at home."

"I've contributed one way or another to a bunch of those," Mets starter and former Brave Tom Glavine said. "It's an understatement to say he's had a great career."

Giles recorded his second career homer as a pinch hitter when he tagged Glavine in the fifth. LaRoche had hit his 11th of the season earlier in the frame.

"That one felt pretty good," LaRoche said. "(Glavine) carved us up all pretty good all night. "I got a fastball there to hit. But I didn't miss."

Glavine (10-14) worked six innings and was charged with five runs and seven hits. He is 1-6 in seven outings against his former team.

"Physically, I felt good tonight," Glavine said. "Mechanically, it was pretty good. I'm still struggling getting the ball in to righties and away to lefties."

Atlanta scored three times in the sixth to break a 2-2 tie as Johnny Estrada and Wilson Betemit had RBI singles and Dewayne Wise a sacrifice fly.

Braves starter Jaret Wright was knocked out of the game in the third when he was hit in the right ankle with a line drive by Wilson Delgado . X-rays were negative and Wright, who could be a part of Atlanta's postseason rotation, is listed as day-to-day.

"As long as it's not busted, I think I'll be fine," Wright said. "It will take a lot to keep me out of the postseason. You will probably have to take a shotgun to my foot."

Roman Colon (2-1) gave up a run on two hits in the sixth but notched the victory. John Smoltz pitched a scoreless ninth for his 42nd save.

Delgado had four hits and rookie David Wright hit his 13th homer in the fourth.
