In Part Five of an SI series that would evolve into the book The Science of Hitting, Williams broke down every aspect of what he always said was the most difficult task in sports. His three basic keys to success were: 1) get a good pitch to hit; 2) proper thinking, i.e., know what you might be thrown; 3) be quick with the bat.
