INVERNESS, Fla. (AP) -- Ted Williams' daughter on Wednesday disputed allegations that she harassed her father's lawyer. Bobby-Jo Williams Ferrell, who is feuding with her half brother and half sister over the remains of their father, said she called attorney Eric Abel one day after Williams' death simply to find out what happened to her father's body. Ferrell said Abel wouldn't tell her anything during the call on July 6, claiming she had forgone that right after telling the media about John Henry Williams' plan to have the Hall of Famer's body frozen. Ted Williams died July 5 and his body was then sent to be frozen at Alcor Life Extension Foundation in Arizona, under the orders of John Henry Williams and Claudia Williams. Ferrell denied the allegation Abel made in an affidavit filed Tuesday that she left him a threatening message. Ferrell regrets "that Mr. Abel has decided to inject himself into this situation by filing inflammatory and exaggerated statements with the court," Ferrell's lawyer, John Heer, said in a statement. "Mrs. Ferrell will respond appropriately through accepted legal channels." Abel said in court documents that Ferrell took offense to his statement to reporters that it was "unfortunate that that Barbara Joyce Ferrell has taken this moment to grab headlines." He said her message "left my wife, children and me with the fear that Ms. Ferrell would do something directly to my family or our house for having simply issued a statement on behalf of Claudia and John Henry Williams earlier that day." Abel did not immediately return a message seeking comment Wednesday. |
