Uecker has knee replacement surgery Posted: Monday August 11, 2003 1:33 PMMILWAUKEE (AP) -- Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Uecker of the Milwaukee Brewers had both of his knees successfully replaced Monday to relieve severe arthritis. Surgeon Jim Ninomiya was assisted in the operation by Brewers team doctor William Raasch. The Brewers said Uecker was alert for much of the two-hour procedure, and kept a running dialogue with the staff in the operating room. Uecker, 69, will begin a rehabilitation program immediately, but will miss some games. Jim Powell will handle all of the play-by-play duties on the club's radio broadcasts while Uecker recuperates Uecker, who was inducted into the broadcasters' wing of the Hall of Fame last month, had hoped to delay the operation until after the season but said the pain had become intolerable. "I don't fish. I don't do anything. It's not fun anymore," he said last week.
