CINCINNATI, Ohio (Ticker) -- The Cincinnati Reds on Thursday acquired righthander Matt Belisle to complete Tuesday's trade in which they sent Kent Mercker to the Atlanta Braves.

Belisle, 23, was the Braves' first-round pick in the 1998 draft. This season, he went 6-8 with a 3.52 ERA in 21 starts at Class AA Greenville of the Southern League and 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in three starts at Class AAA Richmond of the International League.

Belisle will report to Louisville, the Reds' Class AAA affiliate in the International League.

To make room for Belisle on the 40-man roster, the Reds designated outfielder Mark Budzinski for assignment.
