BIOGRAPHY: Declared for the draft after averaging a career-high 17.5 points while shooting 52.5 percent from the field as a junior this past season, leading a USC team that reached the round of 16. The swingman scored 1,486 points in 96 career games for the Trojans, making him the sixth-leading scorer in school history. Young, who will turn 22 before the draft, is a solid jump shooter who has a strong ability to create his own shot. He scored in double figures in his final 25 games. Scored a season-high 30 points on 13-for-19 shooting (68.4 percent) in an 80-73 win over Arizona on Jan. 18. Averaged 19.0 points and shot 49 percent in the NCAA tournament. Young has the potential to be a good NBA defender, but his intensity has been questioned at times. Has been known to play a little lazy on defense and will reach at a defender rather than use his legs and body. Understands he must improve defensively to guard taller, stronger guards like Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady. Shot 44 percent from 3-point range, but was inconsistent at times. Will most likely be used as a shooting guard in the NBA. Can still add some muscle, especially in the upper-body. Young has the potential to be a lottery pick, but will more likely go anywhere from 15 to 25 overall, giving a team a quality shooting option off the bench.
