BIOGRAPHY: Durant was widely considered one of the top incoming freshmen in the country for 2006-07. He more than lived up to the hype - posting an All-American season in which he swept the major player of the year awards - and is now vying with Ohio State center Greg Oden for the top spot in the draft. Was named The Associated Press Player of the Year after averaging 25.8 points and 11.1 rebounds per game, shooting 40.4 percent from 3-point range and 47.3 percent overall. After showing flashes of brilliance in non-conference wins over LSU and Arkansas, Durant grabbed the national spotlight with double-doubles in his first four Big 12 games, averaging 34.0 points and 13.5 rebounds. The final game in that stretch was a nationally televised contest at Oklahoma State in which he had 37 points and 12 rebounds, made clutch shots and played 52 minutes of a triple-overtime loss. Dominated despite drawing most of the attention from opposing defenses. Thin 6-9 frame made him a nightmarish match-up in college. He will be a small forward in the NBA until he adds more muscle. Shows a unique knack for timing his leaps on rebounds. Smart, plays within the offense and rarely forces bad shots. Has the ability to drive to the basket with both hands and has a consistent jumper. Played with three other freshmen on a Longhorns team that reached the second round of the NCAA tournament despite its inexperience. Some argue he doesn't demand the ball enough. Prefers to play on the perimeter, using his athleticism and quick release to beat defenders. Still developing back-to-the-basket moves. Showed some touch in the low post. Will be selected no worse than No. 2 overall. The question is whether the team that holds the No. 1 overall pick needs him more than Oden.
