BIOGRAPHY: Born in Russia, Kaun did not begin playing organized basketball until he was a sophomore at Florida Air Academy. He had an excellent sophomore season at Kansas, averaging career highs of 8.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 19.3 minutes, but has not progressed as many scouts expected since then, due in part to injuries. He averaged 7.1 points and 3.9 rebounds as a senior. Kaun has good size, a great work ethic and plays with plenty of energy. He is a strong player around the basket who moves well for someone his size and is not afraid to by physical in the post. However, Kaun does not have much of a mid-range jumper and struggles outside of the paint. He is a solid defender, but not much of a shot blocker - he averaged just 1.1 blocks during his college career. Kaun is an aggressive rebounder, but his hands and timing are suspect. Kaun will also need to work on his free throws, as he shot just 51.2 percent from the stripe at Kansas. Once considered a first-round prospect, Kaun is now projected as a possible late second-rounder who could go undrafted.
