BIOGRAPHY: Not on scouts' radar screens as recently as two years ago, Asik has gained attention with an impressive 2007-08 season. He started the campaign with Alpella, his club's lower-level team, but was quickly promoted after averaging 15.0 points and 11.0 rebounds in the first 10 games. In 15 Euroleague games for Fenerbahce Ulker, he averaged 7.8 points and 5.5 rebounds in under 19 minutes per game, shooting better than 60 percent from the field and setting a Top 16 round record with 19 blocked shots in six contests against top European talent. Though he's a strong inside presence, Asik does have flaws, like his lean frame, limited shooting range and 52.7-percent shooting from the free-throw line this season. Whichever team drafts the 21-year-old big man - likely in the second round - it will have to wait at least two years for the contract with his Turkish club to expire, so he'll be given more time to develop. The pick could pay off in the long run, however, as Asik has a rare blend of height, length and athleticism, and he already has shown drastic improvement in recent seasons. He has displayed aptitude on both ends of the floor, with his strong field-goal percentage and superior shot-blocking ability. He's also an active rebounder, a skill that can only be aided as he puts on more weight the next few years.
