Biography: Shved has been closely watched by NBA scouts for several years despite getting little playing time in Russia because of obligations to the Russian army. He made his debut with CSKA Moscow during the 2006-07 season, when he also played with CSKA Trinta Moscow. Shved went back to CSKA Moscow for the 2007-08 season and was there until he was loaned to Dynamo Moscow in December. Among the most talented guards in Europe and considered a rising star, he combines rare size for a point guard with excellent passing and ballhandling skills. Because of his outstanding athleticism, creating his own shot is rarely a problem for Shved, who is already a terrific shooter who should get even better as he gains experience. A lanky player that has drawn comparisons to Penny Hardaway, Shved may possess as much all-around talent as any guard in this draft, but he will have some obstacles to overcome as a Russian player trying to make the transition to the NBA. While his height will be a huge help at the next level, Shved is very skinny and will need to add strength to survive the rigors of an 82-game NBA season. He also needs to improve his defensive technique and intensity at that end of the floor. Although he is something of a project, Shved has plenty of upside and could go in the second round.
