Kenneth Faried
Round 1, Pick 22
Position: PF
Class: Junior
Conference: Ohio Valley
HT: 6'8"
WT: 225
Biography: Faried spent the past few seasons overpowering opponents in the Ohio Valley Conference, and many believe he'll enjoy similar success in the NBA. He left Morehead State as the top rebounder in modern NCAA history (post-1973) with 1,673 boards, and his 86 double-doubles are one off Tim Duncan's record. As a senior, Faried led the nation in rebounding at 14.5 per game, topped the OVC with 17.3 points and was third in the conference in steals at 1.9. He was named both conference player of the year and defensive player of the year for the second straight season and was selected to the AP All-America third team. Although most of his success came against the lesser competition of the OVC, Faried proved he could hold his own against top opponents. In three matchups with ranked teams last season, he averaged 15.7 points, 15.7 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.7 blocked shots. He had 12 points and 17 boards in Morehead State's upset of Louisville in the NCAA tournament. Faried is a dynamic athlete with explosive speed and jumping ability. Although his offensive skills are a bit raw and he doesn't have great size, his aggressiveness and physicality have caused some to compare him to Dennis Rodman. No Morehead State player has been drafted since Ricky Minard went to Sacramento in the second round in 2004, but Faried could be a lottery pick.
