TEAM REPORT
Lasers
Coach: Angela Beck (21-23 2nd year)
1997-98 Finish: 21-23 (3rd in Western Conference, lost to Columbus in semifinals)

Probable Starters:

  • F -- Clarissa Davis-Wrightsil (6-1, 11.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg)
  • F -- Sheri Sam, (6-1, 14.5 ppg, 7.1 rpg)
  • C -- Clarisse Machanguana (6-5, 9.2 ppg, 4.6 rpg)
  • G -- Jennifer Azzi (5-11, 14.8 ppg, 5.1 rpg)
  • G -- Kedra Holland-Corn (5-6, 8.7 ppg, 2.5 rpg)

Strengths: Davis-Wrightsil has become an immediate force on the front line and will give the Lasers a third scoring option along with Azzi and Sam. The extra firepower will add to the third-highest offense. Machanguana improved as the season went on and could be a factor this season. Rookie Anna DeForge will backup Azzi.

Weaknesses: They will be thin at center if Machanguana doesn't progress. Hopes to start better than they did last year when they dropped six of the first seven. They allowed the most rebounds, allowing the opposition 40 boards per game. The Lasers must take care of the ball to lower a turnover rate that was a little under 20 a contest last season.

Key Losses: F Anita Kaplan, G Shelley Sandie.

New Faces: G Anna DeForge, F Pam Hudson, F Sharon Thompson, F Davis-Wrightsil.
