TEAM REPORT
Power
Coach: Lin Dunn (36-26, 3rd year)
1997-98 Finish: 27-17 (1st in Western Conference, lost to Columbus in semifinals)

Probable Starters:

  • F -- Katy Steding, (6-0, 8.4 ppg, 3.5 rpg)
  • F -- DeLisha Milton, (6-1, 8.6 ppg, 4.9 rpg)
  • C -- Natalie Williams, (6-2, 21.9 ppg, 11.5 rpg)
  • G -- Elaine Powell, (5-6, 12.3 ppg, 3.8 rpg)
  • G -- Sonja Henning, (5-5, 9.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg)

Strengths: Williams returns after being traded to Long Beach in the offseason and then re-acquired when the StingRays disbanded. The league's leading scorer and rebounder will once again be the focal point of the offense. Powell, who missed the All-Star Game with a foot injury, came out of nowhere to become a star. She is the main outside threat, hitting on 38 percent of her shots from three-point range. Henning will solidify the point.

Weaknesses: The defense will have to be good again because the offense ranked next to last. Dunn hopes the good early showing by forward Danielle McCulley continues and no scars linger from their playoff loss to Long Beach.

Key Losses: F Lisa Harrison, G Molly Goodenbour.

New Faces: G Henning, G Debra Williams, F-C McCulley.
