Scouting report
Gottlieb is a scrappy point guard who plays with no fear -- and that's put him in some hot water in his career.

Gottlieb started his college trek at Notre Dame, bolted from there a few months before he was found guilty of credit card fraud, made a stop at a junior college and now, finally, has found a home with coach Eddie Sutton. He's been a mainstay of Sutton's frenetic game since stepping into Stillwater, though he's had his moments there, too.

In a game against UCLA in December, Gottlieb was thrown out for elbowing Bruins point guard Baron Davis. It was the culmination of a spat that included Gottlieb's father, Bob, a former coach at Jacksonville and Wisconsin-Milwaukee, who spent the days before the game trash-talking Davis in the press.

The younger Gottlieb is a talker, too, but he can play. He's not a great shooter, but his assist-to-turnover ratio is about 3.5-to-1. He missed out on being named Mr. Basketball in his native California to a guy named Paul Pierce, the fine rookie for the Boston Celtics.
