Krantz, Sparrow lead the Tigers over Texas 69-61

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Tiffany Krantz scored 21 points and Conswella Sparrow had 18 to lead Auburn to a 69-61 victory over Texas on Saturday in the opening round of the NCAA East Regional.

Auburn (20-8) scored the first 10 points of the second half to go ahead 44-32 and went ahead 57-44 with 7:13 left on a free throw by Sparrow.

Texas narrowed the lead to 60-53 after a 11-3 run, culminating with a three-point play by Jo Ruth Woods after she stole the ball at midcourt and was fouled on the layup.

Edwina Brown, who led Texas (16-12) with 18 points, made a free throw with 3:10 remaining to cut the lead to 60-56.

But Krantz and Sparrow hit their next two shots and the Longhorns failed to score another field goal until a 3-pointer by Asha Hill with 40 seconds left made it 65-59.
