CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- Dominique Canty scored 19 points to help Alabama beat Grambling 80-68 Friday in a first-round women's NCAA tournament Midwest Regional game.

Shondra Johnson and Kaunda Williams each added 14 points and LaToya Caudle had 11 as Alabama (20-10) blew the game open in the second half and advanced to the tournament's second round for the eighth straight year.

Termika Mitchell matched her season high of 31 points and Felicia James added 14 points for Grambling (25-5), which made only 25 of 88 shots (28 percent) from the field for the game.

Grambling cut the lead to 49-40 midway through the second half, but Alabama answered with six straight free throws by Johnson to restore its double-digit lead. Johnson made 13 of 14 free throws in the final 7:59 to help the Crimson Tide ice the win.

Grambling trailed just 24-23 after Mitchell hit from the left corner with 4:25 left in the first half.

Alabama, with 10 first-half points from Canty, ended the first half with a 7-0 run for a 31-23 lead as Grambling missed its last seven shots.

Latrish Jones scored seven points over the first 4:16 of the second half as Alabama stretched its lead to 44-30.

Alabama also outrebounded Grambling 59-48.
