Troy Murphy
Notre Dame

Troy Murphy Murphy could get more exposure in the Matt Doherty era.
Allsport

Position: Forward
Height: 6'9"
Weight:  225
Hometown: Morristown, N.J.

Stat to note
Scored 519 points in '98-99, a Notre Dame freshman record.
Scouting report

Notre Dame's official web site lists attributes such as "competitive," a "hard-worker," and a "great rebounder who has an attitude to his game." Murphy's work ethic is needed to put the "Fighting" back in the Irish basketball nickname.

As a freshman, Murphy led the Irish with 19.9 points and 9.9 rebounds per game last season. Yet no one seems to know much about him because of Notre Dame's mediocrity.

New coach Matt Doherty had a similar build during his playing days at North Carolina. Irish fans must hope Doherty's winning experience and Murphy's on-court ability can end the losing ways at Notre Dame.
