Owls' 1999-00 schedule
| Temple |
| 1998-99 record |
| 24-11 overall, 13-3 Atlantic 10 (lost to Duke in NCAA East Regional final)
| Coach |
| John Chaney, 380-160 (17 seasons); 605-219 overall (27 years)|
| Projected starting lineup |
Juan "Pepe" Sanchez, 6-4, Sr. |
Needs 44 steals to set the Atlantic 10 career mark, and has molded his game to fit Chaney's mistake-free demands.
G Quincy Wadley, 6-4, Sr.
Perhaps Temple's smartest player, he won the A-10 sixth-man award and played in the NCAA tournament with a broken hand.
C Kevin Lyde, 6-9, So.
Former McDonald's All-American, needs to stay healthy and get stronger, but a possible future star.
F Mark Karcher, 6-5, Jr.
First rookie to lead Temple in scoring since Mark Macon did it in 1987-88.
Lamont Barnes, 6-10 Sr.
Averaged 12.9 ppg and was also an All-Defensive team conference pick.
| Top guy off the bench |
G Lynn Greer, 6-1 Jr.
Pure shooter on a team that otherwise lacks them, coming back after missing most of last year with an eye injury.
| Key Newcomer |
F Alex Wesby, 6-6, |
Should get more playing time as season progresses.
| Key Games |
|Dec. 22, vs. Penn State , the Nittany Lions edged the Owls last year.
Dec. 29, at Wisconsin the Badgers edged the Owls last season, too.
Jan. 20, vs. Penn A Big 5 game, and yep, the Owls lost to the Quakers last year, too.
Feb. 13 vs. Maryland This is about the time Temple should begin winding into its NCAA tournament mode.
| Outlook |
The Owls are the choice of the Atlantic 10, and many feel Temple could finally make it to the Final Four. They have the most experience in the conference and have the players that fit Chaney's deliberate offensive style. A team to watch both in the Atlantic 10 and nationally.
