1998-99 record
28-5 overall, 14-0 WAC (lost to Miami (Ohio) in NCAA second round)
Rick Majerus, 238-64 (11th season at Utah); 337-116 overall (15 years)
Projected starting lineup
G Jeremy Killion, 6-0, Sr.
Forty-one percent shooting was a disappointment.

G Tony Harvey, 6-5, Sr.
Minutes should grow, and so should his 9-point scoring average.

C Nate Althoff, 6-11, Jr.
By focusing on what he can do (rebound), Majerus made him valuable.

F Hanno Mottola, 6-10, Sr.
Can shoot, drive, pass -- Finn is preseason MWC Player of the Year.

F Alex Jensen, 6-7, Sr.
One of two players with triple-double in Huntsman Center; Magic Johnson is other.

Top guy off the bench
G Jeff Johnsen, 6-4, So.
Back from Mormon mission, he'll help defensively once he's in shape.
Key Newcomer
G Trent Whiting, 6-1, Kuna, Idaho.
JC transfer may inherit Andre Miller's point-guard job.
Key Games
at Kentucky (Nov. 19), Preseaon NIT second round. If both win openers, it's a rematch of '97 final.
at New Mexico (Feb. 19), Utes are only conference foe to win in The Pit in three seasons.
at Wyoming (Feb. 28), Last two times Utes have been ranked heading to Laramie? Embarrassing losses.
Each of the past three seasons, Utah has sent a star player to the NBA -- and emerged even stronger. And without Keith Van Horn, Michael Doleac and now Andre Miller, it's happening again. The Utes are arguably the biggest regular-season lock in college basketball; coming off a 14-0 romp through the WAC, they head into the first Mountain West season even further ahead of the competition. With the offense of Hanno Mottola and the brilliant all-around play of Alex Jensen to depend upon, Utah can begin making tournament reservations around Christmas time. The law of averages says they will stumble once or twice during the conference season, but this team is playing for March seedings.
Utes' 1999-00 schedule
