Matt Santangelo hasn't auditioned for a role as a drum-banging bunny, but he might want to give it some thought. Just like Energizer, Santangelo and his Gonzaga Bulldogs keep going, and going, and going.
The Bulldogs' point guard was the key to another surprise run out West with wins over 10th-seeded Louisville and second-seeded St. John's to reach the Sweet 16. He has played every minute and scored 26 points in their win over the Red Storm.
When Santangelo is not scoring, he can get the ball to people who can. He ranks among the nation's leaders in assists and has an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.4.
It doesn't matter that words like "Cinderella" and "sleeper" are being used to describe the Bulldogs again this year. What matters to Santangelo is that his team is still alive. "We're still fighting for respect," he said after the win over St. John's. "Any label you put on us means we're still playing and we're still winning. That's what counts right now."
