DePaul Blue Demons

Powerful frontcourt carries Demons

Last season

21-12, 9-7 C-USA (NCAA first round, lost to Kansas)

Coach

Pat Kennedy (4th season, 46-48, 373-239 overall)

Projected starting lineup

G Rashon Burno, 5-7, Jr.
This little guy doesn't even look 5-7, but he can play. Second in the league in assists (4.6), he loves for you to try and pressure him.

G Bobby Simmons, 6-7, Jr.
Simmons can play G or F. After averaging 13.1 points and 7.9 rebounds, needs to show leadership with Quentin Richardson gone.

C Steven Hunter, 7-0, Soph.
Outstanding freshman season saw him block 56 shots and shoot .579. Remarkably fluid and agile for a 7-footer.

F Lance Williams, 6-9, Jr.
Powerful 250-pounder will team with Hunter to provide thunder and lightning inside. Injured much of last season.

F Andre Brown, 6-9, Fr.
One of the league's top newcomers, Brown, another member of the Chicago connection that has rebuilt the Blue Demons, will help immediately.

Top guy off the bench

G Imari Sawyer, 6-2, Fr.
Like Brown, a consensus Top 100 recruit from Chicago, and a player who will get significant playing time early.

Key games

vs. Syracuse (Nov. 23). A high profile national game in the 1st round of Great Alaskan Shootout.
Kansas (Dec. 12). A United Center rematch of last season's NCAA tournament meeting.
at South Florida (Jan. 25). Let's see how we play in big games on the road.

Outlook

The Demons already had one of the top frontcourts around, and adding Brown to the mix will make them that much better in the post. The fact that DePaul has the luxury of playing someone as talented as Simmons at a couple of different positions says plenty about the talent available for Kennedy. Add in Sawyer, who is expected to be a special player, and the Demons will be heard from in C-USA this season. If the new guys are as good as advertised, DePaul will battle Cincinnati and Charlotte for the division crown.
