Second Round, Game by Game

Recap Game ball to The story Up next
(1) Duke 94,

(9) Missouri 81

  • Recap
  • Box Score
  • Duke F Shane Battier
    27 pts, 11 rebs, 12-13 FTs

Jason Williams (31 points) was more lethal, but Battier's defense and free-throw shooting won the game.

Ex-Blue Devil Quin Synder's Tigers attacked Duke like few before, and Kareem Rush (29 points) led an 11-of-21 effort from 3. But Battier, Williams and Mike Dunleavy were too much in a 19-6 run that broke open a 63-62 game. Duke: Thursday vs. (4) UCLA

Missouri: This team will be flat scary next year.

    (4) UCLA 75,
    (12) Utah State 50

  • Recap
  • Box Score
  • C Dan Gadzuric
    16 pts, 14 rebs, 4 blocks

One of the tourney's most dominating performances to date.

Utah State was seemingly doomed when it missed a whopping 21 consecutive first-half shots, yet the score didn't get out of hand 'til late. Jason Kapono was deadly outside, hitting 5 of 7 3s. UCLA: Thursday vs. (1) Duke

Utah State: The Big West juggernaut will continue.

    (6) USC 74,
    (3) Boston College 71

  • Recap
  • Box Score
  • USC F Sam Clancy
    14 pts, 12 rebs, 4 blocks

Defensive monster who constantly kept the Eagles out of the paint.

Considering USC dominated the boards and shot 29 percent better, this could easily have been a blowout. But Troy Bell's 32 points and USC's 26 turnovers kept it close 'til the buzzer, when the Eagles, down three, mysteriously tried a lay-up instead of a 3-pointer. USC: Thursday vs. (2) Kentucky

Boston College: From worst to first to ???

    (2) Kentucky 92,
    (7) Iowa 79

  • Recap
  • Box Score
  • Kentucky F Tayshaun Prince
    31 pts, 7 asts, 6-8 3s

Sensational once again, teaming with Marquis Estill to shred Iowa.

The Cats shot the lights out, hitting 59 percent from the field and making 13 of 24 3s. Iowa, meanwhile, with the exception of Reggie Evans, finally ran out of steam. Kentucky: Thursday vs. (6) USC

    Iowa: Welcome back, Luke.
