Second Round, Game by Game

Recap Game ball to The story Up next
(1) Michigan State 81,
(9) Fresno State 65

  • Recap
  • Box Score
  • G David Thomas
    10 pts, 14 rebs, 5-8 FGs

You can do that when you're a 6-foot-7 guard.

Michigan State's "small" lineup -- by position, not height -- was the perfect match for the quick Bulldogs. Their ace at point Tito Maddox never got it going, shooting 4-of-16. Michigan State: Friday vs. (12) Gonzaga

Fresno State: Where in the world is Tark?

    (12) Gonzaga 85,
    (13) Indiana State 68

  • Recap
  • Box Score
  • Gonzaga F Casey Calvary
    24 pts, 7 ast, 9-13 FGs

Quite possibly the most important player in this tournament.

The shooting of Michael Menser and Matt Renn kept Indiana State close until a Dan Dickau-led 11-0 run allowed the 'Zags to break open a 66-65 game. Gonzaga: Friday vs. (1) Michigan State

Indiana State: Attend parade in their honor -- Indiana state champs.

    (11) Temple 75,
    (3) Florida 54

  • Recap
  • Box Score
  • Temple G Quincy Wadley
    24 pts, 10 rebs, 5-10 3s

Senior continued his going-away hurrah with more hot shooting.

Wadley made four 3-pointers during a 14-0 run late in the first half that determined the outcome. The Gators struggled mightily against Temple's famed zone, committing 12 turnovers while making only 18 baskets. Temple: Friday vs. (7) Penn State

Florida: Put up a wall -- the agents are coming.

    (7) Penn State 82,
    (2) North Carolina 74

  • Recap
  • Box Score
  • Penn State G Titus Ivory
    21 pts, 8-12 FGs, 3-7 3s

Crispins get the credit, but Ivory was far more consistent Sunday.

Penn State wasn't exactly accurate from outside, hitting only 7 of 27 3s, but made shots in a couple key runs. And its defense was magnificent, exploiting UNC's guards and forcing 21 turnovers. Penn State: Friday vs. (11) Temple

North Carolina: Doherty sees what the locals refer to as "expectations."
