Outlook
Butler is working on its third coach in three years after Thad Matta bolted for Xavier, but the Bulldogs should continue their run of success. Like Barry Collier (Nebraska) and Matta before him, Todd Lickliter is a former Butler player and he knows the system. Four starters return, including senior guard Thomas Jackson. Lickliter will also have some good size after the healthy return of 6-11 center Scott Robisch (8.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg in 1999-2000), back for a final season after battling knee problems a year ago. Robisch could team with 6-10 junior Joel Cornette (9.1 ppg, 5.9 rpg). Cornette blossomed as a sophomore, giving Butler an athletic inside presence. His .583 shooting percentage was second best in the league. Veteran Cleveland State coach Rollie Massimino is looking to win his 500th career game, and he should do it, especially if the Vikings contend for the Horizon championship, as they are predicted to do. Massimino has a high-scoring tandem in guards Theo Dixon (18.0 ppg last season) and Jamal Harris (15.3 ppg). Detroit lost Rashad Phillips, its do-everything point guard, but returns four starters, led by guard Willie Green.
