Introducing the members of our tournament swat team:
1. Irwin Dambrot, CCNY, 1950.
Dambrot blocks a late shot by Bradley's
Gene Melchiorre and outlets to Norman Mager for the clinching basket to seal the Beavers' title, 71-68.
2. Sidney Wicks, UCLA, 1970.
Wicks, though 6'8", blocks a shot by 7'2"
Artis Gilmore of Jacksonville to set the pace for the Bruins in the title game. Wicks would block Gilmore four more times in UCLA's 80-69 rout.
3. David Thompson, N.C. State, 1974.
The 6'4" Thompson does the same for N.C. State against 6'11" Bill Walton early in a national semifinal, in which the Wolfpack stops UCLA's streak of seven straight titles, 80-77 in double overtime.
