Taking aim at greatest shooting performances in tournament history:
1. Bill Walton, UCLA, 1973.
Sinks an incredible 21 of 22 field goal
attempts for 44 points as the Bruins whip Memphis State 87-66 for the title.
2. Bill Bradley, Princeton, 1965.
Scores 58 points (22-29 FG,
14-15 FT) in the Tigers' 118-82 consolation-game victory over Wichita State; 16 of his points -- including left- and right-handed hook shots -- come in the final five minutes.
3. Christian Laettner, Duke, 1992.
Comes up with a perfect day against Kentucky in the East Regional final, when the Blue Devils cannot afford a miss. Laettner scores 31 points and hits every shot he takes -- 10 free throws and 10 field goals, including the game-winner at the overtime buzzer as Duke wins 104- 103, en route to its first title.
