You've seen him on the cover of Sports Illustrated. You've heard the announcers go nuts over him. You've witnessed the Cameron Crazies whipping themselves into a frenzy when he slaps the floor. And if you're like a lot of college basketball fans, you've wondered: Who, him? Through sheer will and tenacity, this too-short, too-white guy has transformed himself into the Duke of Scrap. He is sixth in the ACC in assists and eighth on the team in scoring, but he is second in the league in steals and he leads the nation in floor burns. Cota's ability to adeptly handle Wojo's defensive tenacity is critical if North Carolina is to win this game. —S.D.

The encounter between Wojciechowski and the Tar Heel floor leader will attract the most attention Thursday night. Since the beginning of his freshman season, Cota—who still doesn't start, despite leading the ACC in assists for a second straight year—has been upperclass-wise in his decision-making. He's an erratic outside shooter, but he's so good at slipping into the lane for drop passes and kickouts, that it hardly matters. When he does drive, draw and dish to the perimeter he usually finds his backcourt mate, Shammond Williams. —A.W.
