RICHMOND, Virginia (Ticker) -- Richmond looks to notch another victory in the National Invitation Tournament at home on Wednesday night when it hosts unheralded Wagner in an opening-round matchup. Richmond (19-13) defeated West Virginia here in the first round last year before losing at Dayton. Reggie Brown scored 18 points but Richmond was unable to capture the Atlantic 10 tournament, falling to Xavier in the title game, 73-60. The Spiders were locked in a tie game with 7:12 remaining but failed to score another basket. Despite the loss, Richmond had a successful first full season in the Atlantic 10 with an 11-5 league mark. Wagner (19-9) hails from the Northeast Conference, where it finished second to champion Central Connecticut State. The Seahawks were ousted in the first round of the NEC tournament with an 87-78 loss to Quinnipiac on their home floor. Jermaine Hall scored 15 points and Chris Jackson added 18 for Wagner, which committed 18 turnovers. The Seahawks made just 7-of-22 from beyond the arc. The winner will advance to the first round to play Montana State. |
