COOKEVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- A pair of regular-season champions meet in the opening round of the National Invitation Tournament when Tennessee Tech hosts Georgia State. Tennessee Tech (24-6) went 15-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference but suffered a 70-69 loss to Murray State in the championship game. Cameron Crisp scored 16 points and Damien Kinloch added 15. Despite the loss, the Golden Eagles are one of the nation's hottest teams and have won 19 out of 21 games. Kinloch leads the team in scoring at 16.3 points per game. Georgia State (20-10) is coached by the legendary Lefty Driesell and has won 11 out of 13 games. The Panthers saw a six-game winning streak end with a 76-75 loss to Florida Atlantic in the championship of the Atlantic Sun Conference. Thomas Terrell, the Player of the Year in the ASC, scored 22 points to lead Georgia State. Lamont McIntosh missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have given the Panthers the win. The Panthers have won 10 games away from home, including victories on neutral courts against St. Joseph's and Georgia. The winner will face Detroit or Dayton in the first round. |
