TUSCALOOSA, Alabama (Ticker) -- Eighth-ranked Alabama tries to start another season of home dominance on Friday night when it hosts Alabama State.
Alabama (1-0) went 17-0 at home last season and is 34-1 at Coleman Coliseum over the last two years. The Crimson Tide won all nine non-conference home games last season by double figures, except for one.
The Crimson Tide opened the season with a 68-62 victory over Oklahoma last Thursday in New York. Maurice Williams scored 25 points as Alabama built an 18-point lead before holding off a late rally.
Kenny Walker scored 14 points and Erwin Dudley, the preseason Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, added 12 and eight rebounds. The Tide held a 38-32 rebounding edge and also got 11 points from reserve guard Antoine Pettway.
Alabama State (0-2) hails from the Southwestern Athletic Conference and opened its season with a pair of losses in the Guardians Classic. Cedric Mitchell scored 20 points as the Hornets suffered a 74-73 loss to Furman on Sunday in their season opener.
Malcolm Campbell scored 16 points and Lamar Clark added 10 as Alabama State was beaten by Texas-Arlington in Monday's consolation game, 59-47.
