NORMAN, Oklahoma (Ticker) -- Third-ranked Oklahoma tries to bounce back from an uneven performance in its season opener when it hosts Cal-Irvine on Friday night in the Sooner Invitational.
Oklahoma (0-1) suffered a 68-62 loss to Alabama last week at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. Ebi Ere scored 24 points and Hollis Price added 19 for the Sooners, who fell behind by as many as 18 points.
Ere led the Sooners with nine rebounds as they were outrebounded, 38-32. The starting frontcourt of Johnnie Gilbert and freshman Kevin Bookout combined to make 3-of-12 shots for eight points and five rebounds.
The Sooners have won 22 straight home games after a perfect 16-0 mark at the Lloyd Noble Center a year ago.
Cal-Irvine went 21-11 a year ago and lost to Montana State in the opening round of the NIT. The Anteaters lost two-time Big West Player of the Year Jerry Green, but still have 7-foot center Adam Parada back. Parada averaged 12.4 points per game a season ago.
The winner will face Princeton or Western Michigan in Saturday's championship.
