MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- No. 19 Marquette seeks to capture its own Blue and Gold Classic title for the fourth straight season when it hosts Texas-San Antonio on Saturday night.
Marquette (2-0) improved to 7-0 in this event over the last four years with its 64-46 victory over Coppin State on Friday. Dwyane Wade scored 24 points as the Golden Eagles extended their home winning streak to 17 games.
Wade, a leading candidate for both Player of the Year awards, made 11-of-18 shots and added seven rebounds. Robert Jackson had 13 points and nine rebounds as the Golden Eagles held a 41-17 edge on the glass and outscored the smaller Eagles in the paint, 40-10.
Marquette is 47-11 when outrebounding its opponent under fourth-year coach Tom Crean.
Texas-San Antonio (1-0) advanced with a 76-71 overtime victory over Idaho State. Raymond Briggs collected 16 points and 12 rebounds and Ike Akataobi also scored 16 points.
The Roadrunners committed 22 turnovers, including six by Juan Valdez.
