ATHENS, Georgia (Ticker) -- No. 16 Georgia will have forward Chris Daniels back in the lineup on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Belmont in its home opener.
Daniels is returning from a one-game suspension for participating in an unsanctioned athletic event, which he served in a 77-71 loss to Texas last Friday in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. He averaged 11.3 points and 8.0 rebounds a year ago.
Without Daniels, Georgia (0-1) saw a 10-point lead disappear in the loss to Texas. Ezra Williams scored 20 points and Damien Wilkins, a transfer from North Carolina State, added 16 for the Bulldogs.
Jarvis Hayes, a preseason Southeastern Conference first team selection, managed just eight points on 4-of-13 shooting. The Bulldogs were outrebounded, 39-36.
Belmont (1-1) split a pair of games at the Guardians Classic to open its season. The Bruins were blown out by Notre Dame, 76-48 before posting an 83-77 victory over Brown.
The Bruins got 21 points and 12 rebounds from Adam Sonn and 17 points from Steve Drabyn. They closed overtime with a 13-2 run to win the game.
Georgia posted a 74-53 victory over Belmont in the 1979-80 season in the only meeting between the teams. Belmont is 0-10 against SEC foes.
