STARKVILLE, Mississippi (Ticker) -- No. 24 Mississippi State takes a three-game winning streak into Wednesday night's meeting with winless Jackson State.
Mississippi State (3-1) is playing the fifth game of a six-game homestand that does not include a single opponent from one of the top six conferences in the country.
The Bulldogs, who lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago, still are without their leading scorer and rebounder from a year ago, Mario Austin. The 6-9 junior forward is being held out because the NCAA is expected to declare him ineligible for the season.
Mississippi State reached the 100-point plateau for the second straight game with a 100-58 victory on Saturday over Alabama A&M. Junior guard Timmy Bowers leads the team with a 20.3 scoring average.
Jackson State (0-4) is finishing a five-game road trip. The Tigers, the alma mater of the Toronto Raptors' Lindsey Hunter, have lost its four games by an average of over 22 points.
