MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- No. 17 Minnesota tries to not wait until the final seconds to win a game on Friday night when it concludes a four-game homestand with a visit by Bethune-Cookman.
Minnesota (3-0) has needed game-winning shots in its last two victories. Michael Bauer drained a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer of last Saturday's win over Georgia and Rick Rickert scored on a turnaround jumper for a 64-63 victory over Georgia Tech on Wednesday.
Jerry Holman scored 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting and Rickert added 14 of his points in the second half as Minnesota rallied from a seven-point deficit only to blow a six-point lead with just under two minutes left. But Rickert's shot rescued the Golden Gophers and they stopped the Yellow Jackets on the game's final possession.
The Gophers have won their three games by just a combined 10 points.
Bethune-Cookman (1-2) is from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and opened conference play with a 71-69 victory at Florida A&M on Tuesday. Richard Toussaint scored 22 points and Diondre Larmond added 21 to lead the Wildcats.
The Wildcats are playing their first nine games of the season on the road.
