JACKSON, Mississippi (Ticker) -- No. 17 Mississippi State tries to extend its winning streak to seven games on Wednesday when it hosts Georgia State at Mississippi Coliseum.
The Bulldogs have won six consecutive games since opening the season with a three-point loss to Louisiana-Lafayette. They have not won seven in a row since opening last season with 11 straight victories.
Mississippi State (6-1) posted a 71-62 victory over 11th-ranked Xavier on Saturday as Mario Austin made his season debut.
Austin, who missed the first six games as the NCAA investigated his eligibility, scored 20 of his 28 points in the second half for the Bulldogs in their first game of the season away from home.
Timmy Bowers had 18 points and Michal Ignerski added 10 for Mississippi State, which has won 13 of its last 15 non-SEC road games.
Georgia State (3-3) completed a 2-1 homestand with an 82-77 overtime loss to Alabama State on Saturday.
Nate Williams scored 25 points and Lamont MacIntosh added 21 for the Panthers, who had not lost a non-conference home game since 1999.
Mississippi State posted a 72-63 victory over Georgia State on December 16, 2001 in the first meeting between the schools.
