HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Fifth-ranked Connecticut hopes to avenge an upset loss to St. Bonaventure when they meet at the Hartford Civic Center on Thursday.
On December 28, 2001, the Huskies were shocked by the Bonnies at the Civic Center, 88-70. UConn had won the only other meeting in the series, 91-73, in 1981.
UConn (8-0) routed intrastate rival Central Connecticut on Saturday, 93-65. Ben Gordon, the current Big East Conference Player of the Week, connected on 9-of-13 shots for 24 points, and Emeka Okafor added 17 points.
The Huskies shot 60 percent from the field for a second straight game, making 38 of 63 attempts.
Dating to last season, UConn has won 20 of 21 games, with the only loss to eventual national champion Maryland in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.
St. Bonaventure (5-6) lost to Ohio on Tuesday, 104-101, despite Marques Green's career-high 35 points. Green made 7-of-9 3-pointers.
Patricio Prato chipped in 23 points, Mike Gansey 20 and Jamil Terrell 15 in the setback.
