GREENVILLE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- No. 18 Louisville hopes to extend its winning streak to double digits when it visits Conference USA American Division rival East Carolina on Thursday at Minges Coliseum.
The Cardinals (10-1, 2-0 C-USA) cruised past Saint Louis on Saturday, 73-54, for their ninth win in a row since their only loss, against Purdue at the Wooden Tradition in Indianapolis on November 30.
Reece Gaines paced Louisville with 22 points and Francisco Garcia chipped in 13 off the bench in the triumph.
The Cardinals are 3-0 on the road this season, having defeated Seton Hall, Ohio State and Charlotte.
East Carolina (10-3, 1-1) is off to its best start since the 1957-58 season, when it began 11-3, but comes off an 83-62 loss at Charlotte on Saturday. Travis Holcomb-Faye scored 15 points to lead four Pirates in double figures, and leading scorer Derrick Wiley added 14.
Dating to last season, the Pirates have won five straight Conference USA games at Minges Coliseum. This season, they have won six of seven home games, including two in a row.
Last campaign - East Carolina's first in Conference USA - Holcomb-Faye scored 20 points as the Pirates defeated the Cardinals here on January 16, 87-77, for their first league triumph.
