AMHERST, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- A pair of teams with depleted rosters meet in Atlantic 10 Conference action Saturday when No. 23 Xavier visits Massachusetts.
Xavier (11-4, 2-1 A-10 West) is playing without starting point guard Lionel Chalmers, who is averaging 12.5 points and led the team with 4.6 assists. The Musketeers also had one player quit and one player dismissed from the team.
Massachusetts (6-9, 0-3 East) will be without freshman guard Michael Lasme, who is out for at least three weeks following wrist surgery Friday. Lasme, who suffered the injury in Wednesday's loss to Rhode Island, is averaging 8.2 points per game.
The Minutemen also may be without senior forward Micah Brand, who is averaging 9.1 points and 5.6 rebounds. Brand sat out Wednesday's game with a sprained sprained right ankle and has not practiced.
The Musketeers are playing their first conference road game and are 2-2 away from home this season. David West had 18 points and 15 rebounds in Xavier's 80-47 rout of LaSalle on Tuesday.
UMass remained winless in conference play with a 60-53 loss to Rhode Island. Jackie Rogers scored 15 points and freshman Jeff Viggiano added 10.
The Musketeers won both meetings last season, including a 65-59 overtime victory in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament a year ago. Romain Sato led Xavier with 21 points and West added 14.
