BRONX, New York (Ticker) -- No. 24 Xavier should have an easier time in its latest visit to New York on Saturday night when it faces lowly Fordham in Atlantic 10 Conference action.
Xavier (13-4, 4-1 A-10 West) was humbled in a 71-61 loss to Mississippi State at Madison Square Garden on December 14. David West collected 13 points and 17 rebounds, but he made only 4-of-13 shots and was outplayed by Mario Austin.
The Musketeers have won four straight after Tuesday's 93-58 rout of Duquesne. West collected 16 points and 14 rebounds and Romain Sato led all scorers with 18 points. All five starters reached double figures for Xavier as Anthony Myles scored 16 points and Dedrick Finn added 14.
Sato scored 24 points in Xavier's 88-58 rout of Fordham last season. The Musketeers have won nine straight against the Rams since an 87-74 loss on January 5, 1991.
Fordham (2-14, 1-4 East) has lost four straight after a 79-46 rout at the hands of Saint Joseph's on Wednesday. Michael Haynes scored 10 points and was the only Ram in double figures.
The Rams, who lost Smush Parker to the NBA, are coached by former NBA coach Bob Hill.
