RICHMOND, Virginia (Ticker) -- No. 23 Xavier hopes to avenge its only Atlantic 10 Conference loss of the season Saturday afternoon as it visits Richmond.
Xavier (14-4, 5-1) trails Richmond (12-6, 6-1) by one-half game and is one game behind Dayton for the lead in the West Division of the Atlantic 10.
The Musketeers' sole loss in conference play was a 67-59 home setback on January 7. In that game, Jeff Myers led the Spiders with 18 points and Xavier's David West was held to 10 points.
Since that contest, Xavier has won five in a row. Its latest win was last Saturday's 75-61 triumph at Fordham.
At Fordham, West shook off a finger injury to collect 18 points and 19 rebounds, while Romain Sato scored eight of his 16 points during a decisive 15-2 run in the second half.
Richmond has won four in a row since losing at Dayton on January 15. On Tuesday, junior forward Mike Skrocki scored 18 of his 20 points in the first half of an 84-47 romp of Duquesne.
Xavier is 3-1 all time vs. Richmond. But Spiders coach Jerry Wainwright is 2-0 against Xavier coach Thad Matta.
