SOUTH BEND, Indiana (Ticker) -- No. 10 Notre Dame will try to break out of its February doldrums on Saturday when the Fighting Irish host Virginia Tech in Big East Conference play.
Notre Dame (20-5, 8-3 Big East West) managed a 56-55 victory at West Virginia on Tuesday, but has struggled this month, losing at Seton Hall and at Syracuse.
The Fighting Irish had an easy time against the Hokies (10-14, 3-8 Big East East) in their last meeting. Last season, Notre Dame secured an 85-61 win at Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech has never visited Notre Dame. The schools' only other meeting came in the finals of the 1973 NIT, a game the Hokies won in overtime, 92-91.
The Hokies have lost a season-high three straight games for the third time this year. Virginia Tech snapped its last three-game skid with a 95-74 rout of then-No. 17 Connecticut on February 5.
Virginia Tech has not fared well on the road this season, losing eight of nine games. The Hokies fell 87-69 in their last game, on Wednesday at Boston College.
Notre Dame is trying to avoid its first three-loss month since last February, when the Irish fell to Rutgers, Syracuse and St. John's.
Notre Dame is 13-0 at home this year and has not lost at the Joyce Center since its loss to Syracuse last February.
