OXFORD, Mississippi (Ticker) -- No. 22 Georgia seeks to notch its fourth straight victory on Wednesday night when it travels to struggling Southeastern Conference rival Mississippi.
Georgia (16-7, 8-4 SEC East) got a big effort from Jarvis Hayes in cruising to a 79-66 victory over South Carolina on Saturday. Hayes, who was named SEC Player of the Week, scored 26 points on the heels of a 23-point effort against Alabama.
"We like the way we've been playing the last two or three games," Georgia coach Jim Harrick said. "We've been playing really well. We're healthy and ready to play. Hopefully we'll be ready to go down there and play."
The Bulldogs have moved one game ahead of Tennessee for third place in the SEC East. They are 5-0 against West Division opponents and can complete a sweep of the other division Wednesday.
Besides Hayes, Ezra Williams has turned in another terrific season and leads the conference with 2.9 3-pointers per game. The frontcourt of Chris Daniels and Steve Thomas has also been more productive of late.
"Georgia's got a very good basketball team," Rebels coach Rod Barnes said. "They're well coached, given us problems since Coach Harrick's been there. It's asking a lot of our team to go out and play a team that's playing as good as they are and to take it down to the last minute. But that's what we've got to try to do."
Mississippi (12-11, 3-9 West) has lost seven straight since a 73-54 victory over Arkansas on January 25. The Rebels are in danger of missing the postseason for the first time in seven seasons.
The strength of Ole Miss lies in its frontcourt with Justin Reed and Aaron Harper, who combine to average over 28 points per game. But the backcourt of David Sanders and Emmanuel Wade have struggled over the last seven games.
Georgia has won three straight against Ole Miss, including a 79-72 victory at Athens last season.
