CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- No. 12 Xavier seeks a 13th consecutive victory when it hosts Atlantic 10 Conference West Division rival George Washington on Saturday at the Cintas Center.
Xavier (21-4, 12-1 A-10 West), which has a one-half game lead over Dayton in the division, has not lost since a 67-59 setback to Richmond on January 7. On Wednesday, the Musketeers capped a three-game road trip with an 80-78 overtime triumph over Duquesne.
The Musketeers trailed by eight points with less than 9 1/2 minutes but sent the game into overtime on a tip by Anthony Myles just before the buzzer off a missed shot by David West in the lane.
West contributed 19 points and 10 rebounds for his 18th double-double of the season, and Lionel Chalmers added 17 points and Dedrick Finn 16.
West needs six points for 2,000 in his career and 10 to surpass Tyrone Hill into second place on the school's all-time scoring list. West, who also has 1,231 rebounds, will become the first player since former Kansas star Raef LaFrentz to score 2,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds in a career. LaFrentz accomplished the feat in 1998.
George Washington (10-15, 4-10 West) has lost five of its last seven contests, including a 94-89 overtime setback at St. Bonaventure on Wednesday.
Tamal Forchion scored a career-high 24 points for the Colonials, who shot 53 percent and led by three points before Marques Green scored on a three-point play with 18 seconds left. Greg Collucci missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer in the final seconds, and Green scored 13 points in overtime to secure the victory for the Bonnies.
Xavier has won three in a row and six of seven against George Washington, including an 80-68 road triumph on February 4.
