PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- No. 10 Notre Dame tries to bounce back from a tough loss and hand Rutgers a fifth straight defeat when the Big East Conference West Division foes match up at the Louis Brown Athletic Center on Saturday.
The Fighting Irish (21-6, 9-4 Big East West) had a 16-game home winning streak snapped by Connecticut on Monday, 87-79.
Matt Carroll contributed 28 points and Chris Thomas 19 and nine assists for the Irish, who shot just 37 percent in the defeat.
Notre Dame and Seton Hall are one game behind first-place Syracuse and Pittsburgh in the top-heavy West Division standings.
Rutgers (11-14, 3-10) has lost four games in a row and 11 of 14 in the new year.
On Tuesday, the Scarlet Knights lost to Seton Hall here, 62-52, after the Pirates closed the game on a 10-0 run over the final three minutes. Ricky Shields scored 11 points but was the only Rutgers player in double figures. Herve Lamizana added eight points and a career-high eight blocks.
The Irish beat the Scarlet Knights at home on January 14, 68-57.
Rutgers defeated Notre Dame here on February 14, 2002, 65-62.
