WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- No. 12 Wake Forest tries to maintain its hold on first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference when it takes on Clemson at Lawrence Joel Coliseum on Saturday.
The Demon Deacons (20-4, 10-3 ACC) have a one-half game lead over Maryland and Duke atop the conference standings. Wake Forest has three games remaining and the second-place teams just two.
Wake Forest has not won a regular-season ACC title since sharing the 1995 title. It has not won the title outright since 1962.
On Wednesday, Wake Forest won its third straight game with a 60-56 triumph at Florida State.
Vytas Danelius scored 17 points and Josh Howard added 14 for the Deacons, who committed 20 turnovers but held the Seminoles to 29 percent shooting.
Clemson (15-9, 5-8) had won three games in a row before getting manhandled at Maryland on Tuesday, 91-52.
Sharrod Ford had 12 points and 11 rebounds, Edward Scott 11 points and Chey Christie 10 for Clemson, which trailed by just five points at the break before Maryland opened the second half witha 27-4 burst.
Wake Forest routed Clemson on the road on January 28, 81-60. Danelius contributed 21 points and Howard 18 and 11 rebounds for the Deacons, who have won eight of the last nine meetings and 13 of 15.
