SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- No. 23 Utah can clinch a tie for the Mountain West Conference regular-season title on Thursday night when it hosts Colorado State at the Huntsman Center.
Utah (22-5, 10-2 MWC) leads Brigham Young by one game for the conference lead. The Utes have beaten the Cougars twice and can earn the No. 1 seed in the MWC tournament with a victory. They need two wins to win the regular-season title outright.
Tim Frost and Nick Jacobson each scored 16 points as Utah captured its final road game with a 57-52 triumph over Air Force on Monday. Jacobson was perfect at the free-throw line, converting all 10 attempts.
Utah posted a 71-66 victory at Colorado State on February 8 behind 15 points and eight rebounds from Britton Johnsen. Jacobson and reserve Marc Jackson each netted 13 points.
Jackson continues to provide a spark off the bench for Rick Majerus' club. He is averaging 9.2 points and is shooting nearly 50 percent (25-of-51) from beyond the arc. Colorado State (15-12, 4-8) ended a seven-game slide with a 102-89 victory over San Diego State on Monday. Matt Nelson made all eight shots and was 14-of-19 from the line for 30 points to lead the Rams.
Utah has won seven straight home games against Colorado State since a 71-70 loss in the 1993-94 season.
